Recording of Lessons – Privacy Information
We record lessons (video and/or audio) for educational and safeguarding purposes. This may include using recordings to support students in revisiting classes or to support those who are absent, improve teaching and learning, provide staff training, and review behaviour, complaints or safeguarding concerns.
These recordings may capture students’ images, voices and any information they share during the lesson. Recordings are stored securely on school systems, are not publicly accessible, and are only accessed by authorised staff for the purposes described above.
Where appropriate, students are given password‑protected access to recordings of the teaching sessions via our online platform. This access is available for up to 12 months after the final teaching module on their course is completed, to allow students to review and consolidate their learning. Access is restricted to the student (and relevant staff) and must not be shared or redistributed.
We keep recordings only for as long as necessary and then delete them in line with our Data Retention Policy. Our standard retention period for routine lesson recordings is 12 months after the final teaching module is completed, after which recordings are deleted or anonymised. In some cases, for example where a recording is needed as part of an ongoing safeguarding matter, investigation, complaint or legal process, we may retain a copy for longer where this is necessary and lawful.
We process this information on the basis of our legitimate interests in providing and improving education, ensuring safeguarding and managing the school, and, where applicable, to perform our contract with students. In limited circumstances we may also rely on consent, which we will request clearly where needed.
